Onslow beach reports in the past have been pretty good, August can be tough with the heat, but all boils down to ocean temps., a front moving through, surf conditions, etc., but you know all that. Bring a throw net and look for finger mullet in some of the little creeks on base, they maybe in the surf also, dig for sandfleas or use something that looks like sandfleas, they make a orange strip bait, think it's called Fishbites EZ flea, use a small piece about the size of your finger nail and put on a river rig or any small hook or double hook rig, if you catch a whiting with that, cut him up for bait. Good luck Marine, let us know how you did.

Thanks PopPop, got all those things, we use Fish Bite up here in Va. so I know about them. I have sand flea rake also, used it at the beach up here. I remember when I was there back in the 70's sand fleas were the ticket for sheephead on the piers. Will let you know, we'll be there Aug 12th to 15th.

My oldest son was at Lejeune 93'-97', never got to fish the base surf, I was always on the pubic side of New River Inlet, caught some nice flounder there in the fall time frame years ago. Will look forward to your report, and again good luck!

Well it was an outstanding fish less weekend but I'm sure I gained a pound or two downing shrimp and suckling on craw dad's at the Snead's Ferry Shirt Festival. Weekend was mostly hanging 0ut with friends. Monday morning I had the first opportunity to get down to the beach and I'm gonna tell ya'll the flesh life je right off the beach. Went back to cabin and oiled down with bug juice and headed back to the beach. By that time they had invited their cousins from SC to join in the feast for this Virginia meat. Got the heck off that beah. There was a gent in the next cabin from me with a kayak that made a killing on red fish in the shallows around Hammocks Beach State Park. He said he didn't see anything under 20 inches all day. He had 4 mosters in his cooler, said he had the person's he was fishing with because they didn't like fishh. Hmmmm....well over the one a day limit. Maybe next year.

Sorry you didn't catch anything, but the shrimp festival was probably a enjoyable time. In the past when we would go down to North Topsail we would always see the old posters about the Shrimp festival. My one son was in Frisco this past week and only caught one blue and 2 rays ( one actually broke his rod), ocean is still very warm, that's the problem. Thanks for the report.

Nice reds. I play by the rules even though I may not agree with them, you can buy a lot of meat (fish), for what a fine will cost you. I would think that fellow would be in trouble if he had his cooler checked, especially if he was by himself, but I'm not a judge. Thanks for the pics.
