Morning all, Just an update on the fishing at Ocean Crest Pier. The Forth of July week fishing was great. Lots of Speckled Trout and Black Drum both in the 2-1/2 -5 pound range. A nice mix of the other bottom species including sevral nice Governors citation sized Pompano - 2 lbs or above. We had a new comer and now regular hook into a very large Tarpon. My estimates put it in the 125-150 lb range. he did a super job fighting the fish and bringing it in for gaffing. That simply became impossible when the upper leader broke leaving the fish fin hooked only. Our attempts getting the fish on deck failed. Angler was happy with having had the fish on . Kinda catch and release. From an conservation angle
seeing the monster swim away healthy was a bonus. The pier could have promoted the catch if the landing was successful but things happen for a reason. Maybe another will be hooked soon. Theres lots plying the local waters.
If conditons hold and clear water is blown in the kings should return soon.
Several citation Spanish (6+lbs) have been landed as well.
More later..come visit...soon.. Dave .OCP manager:)
