hello all, i just got off the phone with tom ballard (k-tom). he seemed in good spirits. he and his wife are fine. residents of the island are licking their wounds and assessing the damage. the authorities have not begun letting those who evacuated return and tom is not certain when that will happen.
avon seems to have faired pretty well all things considered. they suffered extensive property damage to the roof of their home. as for rodanthe(sp) he thinks it will experience some flooding since it is fairly flat ground but he has not been there yet because of all the water. obviously there is sand, water and debris everywhere. and everything south of buxton is either partially or totally underwater.
all those beautiful new multi-million dollar homes in frisco are severly damaged and tom guesses will have to be bulldozed. he does not recommend planning to fish south of buxton until early nov. at the earliest.
this afternoon tom is planning on boarding an emergency ferry to ocacoke (sp) to help someone whos' house had floated into the sound.

Thanks Ralph and Larry
I also talked to Tom. Glad to hear he and family are ok. His power came back on as we were talking but didn't stay on very long. It sounds like things are getting done down there to restore order.
