OOOO rahh NC Kingfisher, maybe We chatted, I was present that Day @ OKI..
There was also a very Large Spanish caught on the King Rig, (You maybe left by then?), Later in the Afternoon..
I myself gave up, after those Spinner Sharks moved in & took out every rig on the pier.. ;) & the wind kicked it up a few more notches too... XD
Folk's I'll say this, I've have NEVER, in quite awhile have Met a more accommodating & Nice & polite group of Folks Kingin on a Pier... That fishes OKI..
I HIGHLY Recommend the pier... A NICE Family Pier if I ever seen One..
Talking about that King,, It Hit on the Left side Went UNDER every King Rig, popping out on the Right side AT the Pilings! Talking about One P.O.ed GREEN King?/ Oh My.... By the Grace of the Fish Gods did it get gaffed... :D

surf?

Oh, Folks, one thing Missing in the above report..
LARGE SST's are being caught on Live Shrimp, in the morning, (falling tide)... Fishing with corks.. I seen several that Morning pushing 3 pounds...
Coming in next week, will fishing the surf right out in front of the beach house be ok? Or should I fish a certain end of the beach? Or look for holes at low tide and fish there? I love fishing popping corks will they work on the surf if I'm out past breakers? Sorry for all the questions! And no I'm not wanting you tell me your honey holes!! Thanks!!!

listen they were fishing for them kinda like crappie or Big bream... Live Shrimp BELOW a cork, (BOBBER if you will),, about 12 to 20 inches, hooked behind the head.. (NOT a "popping cork" Lure), You can use live Mud Minnows with great success also..
Those fellers were fishing just behind the breakers to, about (I'm guessing) 50 yards past the break... I imagine, if you can get a live Shrimp ON A cork out past that last wave break, & get it to set & Stay, A FEW minutes,,,(Especially with a NE/NW wind at your back),, it won't take Long to catch one or 2... OKI is a Flat beach per se... Not much , as far as holes & slews...
Honestly if I were you, I'd try casting SST baits, DOA Soft baits & maybe a MR52...
if I had My Soft DOA's I'd woulda been casting & jigging, hoping for the best! :fishing:

Have been to both piers on OKI several times and both are great and have really nice people working and fishing there. Had a great time on the Long Beach pier too while it was around. The OIB pier is fun to fish as well, but tends to attract more tourists.
