I might be headed to the beach on the weekend of the 12, but dont usually fish this late in the year. What fish will be around Oak Island? Planning on trying to get my son and I's first trout, but I am not sure if they will still be around. I will be using mirrolures and vudu shrimp lures. I really appreciate any tips at getting my son and I our first trout! Thanks so much!

Trout, reds and flounder should all still be around next weekend. I haven't been in a couple of weeks but I hear the water is starting to clear up which should help the trout bite.

I was there this past monday and tuesday. water was quite clear but bite shut down on sunday.

Also, we are told to fish the "backwater" for trout. Since we are land locked, what do people mean by that at OKI. Is the "backwater" davis canal or is it the ICW, or should we go down to the north side of caswell beach. Thanks in advance.

I wish! Just the inlet or all the way into the channel? If all the way into the channel is there a way to fish from the shore in the channel?

Slow trolling jig heads with grubs or mirror lures against the tide in the channel, then we drift back with the tide. Every time you go over an oyster bar is at least one hit

Just got back today. SLOW. Did Ok Monday. Blues, few spot. Tuesday about the same. Wednesday was terrible. 2 1/2 ft shark only notable. Thursday even worse. Got up and left this morning. Tried a variety of bait. I saw very limited action in the inlet. Walked and fished the point from one end to the other. One great big sand bar now. Only hole I found was to the left going out on beach. About 3rd house down. I tried some other places as well. PLENTY of bait fish 200 yards out. Fish just not there. Heat? maybe. I find out as I am going back for Thanksgiving.....

Pal that lives there said red drum stopped about week an half ago....
