My dad is in town for a week or so amd we were able to get away to fish for a few hours. Fished from around 9 to 1 and all we caught were croaker. Used a gotcha plyg and a double rig with 2 jigs. I used frozen squid to add a little action to the jigs and the gotcha lure. It was nice being able to get out after my wife had the baby. Few more weeks flounders should be around NOB hopefully.

OD they are there now the just aren't biting frequently. I caught on last Friday night. Along with croaker shad and grey trout on plastic jigs. My buddy caught a big tailor blue. He wasn't quite chopper size but he was bigger than most tailors.
caught this guy on a 3 inch gulp swimming mullet.

NOB_legend i thought i had one once when i was jigging. I am going to try tomorrow again. I didnt have all my fishing stuff but ill be more prepared. Did you catch it from the pier or the other place you caught the big stripers last year?

I was waiting for you to post something too.

Cap I am sure I will be there at some point this weekend. Jim there are not many striper caught from the pier. It's an uncommon occurrence for this time of year, at least on that pier. I was told last weekend that the reds are migrating into the bay. Apparently some have been spotted and caught over on the eastern shore. So it won't be long now. I just hope the numbers are better than last year.

NOB_legend For the blue crab do you just use a fish finder rig and let it roll around the bottom? I would imagine you would be feeding the crabs around there. Ive only used live bait once before and had some luck. I didnt know how to set the hook for flounder before though. Idk where i can get them for cheap/free. The marsh near the pier has some i think but idk if youre allowed to try to catch them. As far as the other cut bait you use, do you use it with a jig or a bottom rig?

Sorry for grilling you with all the questions I just determined to catch my first keeper flounder is all.

OD I'm here to help. When I'm using blue crab for drum I make my own dropper loop bottom rigs outfitted with 2/0 circle hooks. As far as the flounder I have my best luck fishing the pylons and just dropping live bait straight down beside it. When you do that make sure to leave a little slack in your line. When flounder hit more times than not the hit your line at least twice. The first time is to kill you bait and the second time is to eat it. If they feel tension on the first hit more times than not they will get spooked and swim away. If the hit it and keep it down give yourself a quick 5 count to make sure they have the hook good then set it. As far as catching bait in the marsh I go there all the time to catch finger mullet and often end up with live grass shrimp as by catch. I only use cut bait on bottom rigs. If you do catch a flounder that is of legal size, I keep the white belly and cut it into strips. Flounder love flounder belly for some reason. I hope this info helps you catch the big one. And make sure you use flounder hooks.

Legend,
Going to try to get to NOB this weekend. I notice you do most of your fishing at night...do folks catch anything out there during the daytime? Also, what tide do you mostly fish out there? Thanks!
I work at the base and I have been going pass the pier a few times a week while at work and talking to the people fishing. And they aren't catching much of anything except crabs. Went there today and someone was crabbing and in about 2 hours they had about a dozen and a half, mostly female.
