I have gotten into surf fishing quite a bit this summer. I fish Matagorda mainly. My question is about weights and if I'm doing something wrong. So the last couple of times I have gone to the beach the waves have been breaking 2-3 feet high over the first bar. Every time I would cast into the gut between the 1st and 2nd bar the waves would pull on my line moving my weight and bait in. Within a matter of minutes I would have tons of slack in my line. That day I was using a 12' rod and an 8 oz spider weight. I was just curious if there is a trick to keeping the waves from pulling on the line so much or if I need heavier weight or if its just hard to fish past the breakers when the waves are that high.
