Hello all! I am new to the forum and have a quick question. I am looking for a rod and reel to go surf shark fishing in SC. I was thinking about getting a Daiwa BG 8000 reel and a 10 foot heavy Tica rod. Do you think those two would be good choices for shark fishing? My price point is $200-$300 total.

Thanks and let me know what advise/ suggestion y'all may have!

What ipnurwater said. Look up reg's first. When i'm only targeting sharks, I use a heaver A 12' Penn Battalion rod, H 4-10 oz conventional with a Penn 990 mag casting reel. sometimes this don't seem enough, small to med, up to 6 ' it's fine, after that i wish i had a Penn 116 or a monster 119. But i couldn't handle that from the beach. One time i had a big Bull shark on the hook, That was great but i had to cut the line to let him go before he tore my tackle up, I mean he was big, I didn't want to get spooled. :fishing:
