I would say 97.985% of my salt water fishing as been on the NC OBX (North not south). I love it there, possibly my favorite place on earth.

That being said I have two young children that have started to get the fishing bug and love being on the beach, but a 7 hour drive is just to much for a weekend with them (3 & 5 yo).

I live in Charlotte so no where is close, but some are closer than others. We don't need to be catching citation drum, just a lot of catching.

Where would you go? We fished Kure last year with great success (bunches of sea rats and bait thieves, the kids loved it).
Carolina Beach? Myrtle? Charleston? Thanks all!:fishing:

My wife and I visit Wrightsville Beach regularly and I've also been up to Topsail a couple times by myself. The surf in either place will get you plenty of fun stuff for the kids. When on the beach, look for holes and wash-out areas at low tide, then fish these spots from two hours before until two hours after the high tide. You probably knew that already, but just sayin'. :) Flounder are fairly easy to get on 1/4oz jigs with 3" Gulp! shrimp, and bluefish will take any shiny surface or shallow-diving lure like a 17MR or a spoon. Of course, a two-hook rig with cut shrimp will get plenty of stuff for the kids too. They'll be up to their eyes in pinfish and you can throw the head of one out on a larger rig for bigger fish. Imagine their eyes when they see you bring in a 2-4ft shark!

As you already know, Carolina/Kure are great too and will have similar results.
