I'd go with the mono over the braid,Topsailbum.. Reason: A hook can easily be pulled will fighting a king mack, braids have no streach,so every turn of the head the king makes could tear the hook outta him.. Kings are foul hooked more often than most fish caught on live bait,I think it is because of the way they slash at a bait.. I think mono with it's streach does a better job of cushioning, therefore less pulled hooks.. ;) As far as line test,I'd use 50 shock,20ft of it.. For running line I would use 20 some folks use 30,IMHO think it to be overkill..

ok topsail, so you want to join the fishing elite huh? king riggers, the kings of the pier!! best thing you can do as i suggested on another post, come down to kitty hawk during the the first or second week of may or when the water temp gets above 68 degrees. there will sure to be a bunch of us out there. king riggers are a tight click but are willing to help anyone interested in getting into this type of fishing. you can also look at all the different types of equiptment being used. equipment varies by user but all set ups are basicly the same. we all use a heaver ffor an anchor line and a 7 ft fighting rod with a reel that will hold over 400 yards of 20 to 30 lb test. if you look at HEAVERS page he describes how to king rig. another place to get infformation is on the avalon pier web page. and for detailed questions feel free to e-mail me.
