so normally I hurl bait into the surf and catch slot drum/over slot drum so I dont have the nuances of throwing lures and such for drum inshore from a boat.....I have done well with trout and flounder throwing gulp mullet on a jig and basically slow retrieve bouncing it off the bottom when i feel the bottom.....I guess what I'm asking is if you were to bring a beginner out on the boat what would you give them to cast?....should i just speed up my retrieve and not "jig" it? I'm mainly hitting grass lines/docks/oyster beds and points where bait is getting swept by....really any help is appreciated

Right now I'd give them a carolina rigged f/mullet and keep fishing the places you mentioned. Cut bait works just as well. ZMAN plastics with procure is my go to artificials. Gulp baits produce also. For top water action I use badonkadonk lures in the redfish color. Others think highly of top dogs and spook jrs.
