Hi, I just moved to Virginia beach and needed some tips to start fishing in the ocean (something quite new to me). I was wonder if there were any great free spots, if you need a Va fishing license and what kind of tackle should I buy. Thanks all.
http://www.mrc.state.va.us/anglersg.htm Contains a lot of info that will help you get started. You will need a salt water license unless you are fishing from one of the commercial fishing piers or head boats, or a private boat with a boat license.
...and the tackle you get to start with depends on where you'll fish from, i.e., piers, inlets, surf, etc.
There are a lot of people that frequent this board who are very knowledgeable (not me ) that can get you started on 1 or 2 basic combos (with some difference of opinion ) and several areas to fish from.
Check out the Hot Spots link at the left to begin with for places to go.
Good luck and tight lines.
