It took almost a year but the new record was finally confirmed. What a beast--the thing looks more like a small yellowfin than an albie.

The markings on the back of the fish say False Albacore

No thumbprints on the lower body though so it looks like hybrid to this Tourist anyway:rolleyes:

The fellas holding it look fairly honest....at least as honest as fishermen can look holding dead fish anyway...

A friend of mine caught a False Albacore on a pin rigged Bluefish on Nags Head pier in 1986 or so that I think was probably bigger than the fish in the picture, but we were fishing for Kings for the Restaurants so it was released....alive...it was Salvo Phil who caught it.

Kenny Crawford caught one about that big on a pin rig on big J this year. 34" FL we didnt weigh it thought. It became chum....wait...i mean .... uhhh ...we fed the dolphins with it.

On someone else's pin rig... They were out in the parking lot getting high...uhh I mean looking for some fishing tackle they left in thier vehicle ... He an I were standing there talking and they were no where to be found. I said "Grab It" and he did.... Rest is history
