Anybody have any info on the 96# caught in Ocoke?

Lee had mentioned it in his weekly VA Pilot Fishing report (and I always thought he just read our board to get the fishing reports. :p )

VA Pilot Weekly Fishing Report
The formula to estimate the weight is very inacurate when used on drum. In all likelihood that fish probably weighed 70-80 lbs. Still a helluva fish but without a doubt not a world record. Using that formula, David Duel's world record drum would have weighed about 106 lbs.
Duel's drum was 58.5" fork length. The drum in question was 53". I'm not sure if he measured fork length or total length.

The man is a friend of Lynn Pendleton and he was kind enough to E-mail me some additional pics. HUGE fish regardless of how he measured.
Definate "Old Warrior" status and then some.
Guy has a bunch to be proud of.

I saw the pick great fish.
No record. I know the mount that DD refers to very well. I wonder if Rick(who is in Fla) remembers the one we estimated at 85Lbs back in the "70's. That mount is the only one larger that I have seen.

I say its in the upper 80's, or in the lower 90's
So's how many 70+ pounders have you laid yer young eyes on? :D

My old eyes have seen two - both mounted. :)

Kenny, I've seen one close to that fat tho not that long - caught by a bud on the Rascal & I passed on picking up the dang rod. If I can find the photo, I'll scan & post. A true peeeeg. Tho not close to this feesh.

Puppymullet,my eyes were a rolling cause

64" you would just have to see to believe.. :D

BW,I've seen maybe 3 that were over 70. Two on Rodanthe, back in the day,and one on Avon that was lost at the net that would have given that mount in Rodanthe a run for the money. Guy was from Pen. that fought the fish,my bud gave him his rod thinking it was a shark. He fought that fish for close to an hr! Had it up by the pier and tried to fit it into the net at least 3 times, finally his knot to the swivel broke, what a sinking feelin went over us all that night.. :(
