I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join. Great forum! I'm a retired Air Traffic Controller (38 years). I've been fishing all my life, but only started seriously fishing salt water within the past 4 or 5 years. My wife and I have a small place at Holden Beach and try to get down as often as we can. We came down this weekend to assess the damage from the hurricane (fortunately, only a few shingles missing).

Since I didn't have to spend too much time making repairs, I had time to hit the surf. The first day yielded a few blues, a small pompano, and a too small red drum. I headed down yesterday during the incoming tide....really slow. I had an 8' rod with live finger mullet and a 6 1/2' rod with fresh shirimp. A few hits on the live mullet, but absolutely nothing on the shrimp. I ran out of live mullet, so I put cut bait (blue) on both rods and got a few more good hits, but it was still pretty slow (small fish I think). I was just about to wrap it up when I got a good hit on the smaller rod. 30 minutes later I landed this:

Biggest one I've ever caught. Man, what a blast! Headed out again in a few minutes.

Fishing is much less stressfull than telling pilots to decend ,climb and maintain their altitude and headings that you assign.

Glad to see new folks join..and Congrats, what appears to be your first Yearling Red Drum. Especially on lighter tackle.
Kudos to You!!!:fishing::fishing:

Id like to suggest that the next time you catch a Drum, hold the fish in your arms and cradle it. Take its pic and measure it as quickly as possible if you like. Then get it back in the water quickly. Help it back along in the surf if necessary.

As far as (editing) rotating your picture, you can do that in your device , computer etc. Then post it to the forum.. It is really not that hard and I am sure you possess the ability to "edit" your own stuff.

Hope you catch more and bigger fish while you are down...

I actually did cradle the fish at first. It was back in the water in less than 5 minutes. I was prepared to "slosh" him in the water while holding his tail, but as soon as he was in the surf, he took off like a rocket!

Too Funny... On the picture ... 99.9% percent of us get the idea of your catch and latest trophy.

Well .......if you've read the board long enough I'm sure you know there is an individual who frequents the boards who will copy your photo and do you the favor of putting it up correctly....

You'll eventually get figured it out.

Lord Voldemort doesn't post here. :D

This is weird.
Very weird.

Trying.

Edit. Got it figured out.

That was wacko. I had to download the two pics, and rotate them like 10 times in a photo editor and save it on my PC and reupload before it would work right.

Welcome aboard, bugle, and nice work.

LMAO..dialout..... NO the name I did not speak wasn't Bubba. However, that was a nice suprise that he took the time to do it for bugle
Bubba is busy this time of year, and unfortunately for him it ain't fishin.

Bugle already has his fan club in the background too.
