New Ocean front regulations

The Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, pursuant to the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 08.02.15.12H, announces changes to the recreational fishery to implement the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Striped Bass. Effective 12:01 a.m. January 1, 2017, a person may not take or possess more than two striped bass per day from State waters of the Atlantic Ocean, its coastal bays, and their tributaries. The striped bass must be between 28 inches and 38 inches, inclusive, or greater than or equal to 44 inches. All other rules remain the same.
if only they would keep it at a 28-38" slot and protect the big girls.....

I didn't notice the changes at first, but I see that "or greater than equal to 44 inches" is new... My personal best is only 32" from shore, so I glazed over that detail, lol. I personally wouldn't even want to take home a 44"+ striper.
You have a shot at fish that big around here in the spring, fall not so much.

The regs. stated in this thread are for Ocean dwelling Rock. Most of the cows here in MD are beyond the 3mi. limit typically, except for the few caught by surf fisherman off AIVA I don't see these ocean regs as much a problem.

I think the real problem here in MD is the the other set of regs for the Chesapeake Bay where the real damage is done in the spring.
I'm appalled by the # of big girls killed by trollers out in the Bay in the spring. Just go to the MD DNR anglers log to see the carnage each spring. That's where the real problem lies.
Charter boat captains would probably disagree of course. Just my 2 cents.

Write your congressman. Better yet, lets start a P&S partition.

Have you seen the fish caught this fall at the mouth of the bay? Those spring fish pale in comparison.

I don't think it'd be that tough to come across some big girls in say OC in spring, it's no different from DE.

The biggest problem with the spring season is those fish are full of roe waiting to spawn, why not let them finish before the season starts ??

Oh I completely agree but the fish getting killed in the lower bay right now is disgusting.

Look at this picture I just saw today. I bet you 80% of that meat ends up freezer burned and in the trash.

These same Hotties were out at the Point just putting the hurt on big Drum two weeks ago. I am pretty sure I saw a picture of them kneeling behind 600 pounds of YFT at Oregon Inlet last May.
