I am moving to hampton, right around fort monroe and was curious what bites good in that area? I will have full access now that the house is on the water. Could i catch anything right out of my backyard throwing out with a heaver? Buckroe pier? Kayak fishing? I am motsly interested in cobia, drum, trout, and flounder.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Short answer is yes. Lots of good fishing around here especially if you have a kayak or skiff, but a lot can be done from shore

Go to Buckroe pier or for free fishing and deeper water go visit the pier at Fort Monroe. Just watch out for the regulars at Buckroe at the T section they like to crowd people with multiple rods but once you find a good spot they seem to leave you alone until you walk away for a second then they take your spot lol.

I recommend the pier at Fort Monroe as well. Try your back yard too. Put in a sand spike, cast out, and do yard work while keeping an eye on it. You'll be surprised on how far fish around here will travel.

Are cobia a common catch in the summer for buckroe? And will fall drum come as far back as hrbt?

Also new to Hampton, but further up on Grandview Island right next to the preserve beach. Same question as above. Did go croaker fishing yesterday and caught a couple small ones and one redfish under 8". Seems to be a hard surf to reac. Any suggestions?

You may catch some large reds in the fall near the HRBT, but the majority of the big bull red action is going to be around the CBBT and off Chic's beach at the base of the bridge.
