Feb. 24: Fished the surf from 8:30 am to noon. Temp. was in the high 70’s. Surf was high (a few surfers) with a slight wind coming from the east. The tide was outgoing (low tide was at noon), and the sun was shining with a few clouds off and on (got sunburned). Fished a Carolina rig with 2 oz. of sliding sinker weight (could barely hold bottom), shrimp, cut and whole finger mullet, with not even a bite to show for it. Water was cold, but was wearing chest high waders, so no big deal.

Sorry for the late report. Fished the surf on 3-6 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. Slight wind from the north that turned to slight wind from the east. Surf was calm, low tide was around 8 am, with high tide around 2 pm. Nothing biting in the morning, finally got some good hits in the afternoon (no fish caught), didn't want to leave, but had another committment. I used clams, shrimp, and whole and cut mullet, with the only hits on the cut mullet. I typically use a 1/0 Circle hook on a Carolina rig because I had a Size 1 hook break on me on a 32" Red Drum last season (I know it was 32" because I caught the same fish with the broken hook in his mouth after I re-rigged with the 1/0 hook). I did move down to a Size 1, but just hits. Things are changing though, I saw birds in the air and on the water, baitfish being eaten by the birds and a school of fish on the surface (beyond casting distance)...Bluefish?

Going to try and make it out tomorrow (and taking an outfit with smaller hooks in case the Puffers are in)...will keep you posted.
