That's in N Myrtle Beach, correct? You might want to make the drive south to Huntington State Park or Pawleys Island for fly fishing. I've fly fished at Pawley's but my success has been limited too. However, have caught fish with spinning tackle there, so there are fish to be caught. Try the inlet on the north end, or the causeways on the two roads going in. I've only read about Huntington, but others have said they've fly fished there.

If your budget allows, try doing a guided trip or bring a pair of waders. I have not done any of this myself, but I have seen reds tailing in the Pawley's Island marsh back in younger years (5-10 years ago). I am getting spoiled with Maryland striper fishing up here. My next duty station is VA. When in June will you be in the area? I am willing to shoreline guide you if I happen to be in the area.

The Huntington Beach Jetties may be of some promise if Spanish mackerel and bluefish are busting on glass minnows or menhaden close to the jetty.

If you willing to drop down to normal fishing, just use small hooks on bottom rigs with shrimp off a pier or throw got-cha plugs for blues/Spanish.

I can't get more specific than what I posted. There is public access to the water on Pawley's Island. The inlet of the south end is not real conducive to fly fishing, unless you're an experienced surf fisher. Then you might have a chance if the fish are in close.

The inlet on the north end has a bulkhead along the north end. That's your best bet for flies if you hit the tide correctly. You can wade some there, but that too would depend on the tide. A sinking line is a good choice.

There's two roads that provide access to the island. Both cross over creeks. At those causeways you can access the creeks, but you may have to wade to get to the water for casting flies. Watch out for snakes!

There are grass flats on the back side of the island, and it's possible to find fish on those flats when the tide is correct. You're going to have to walk/wade thru mud & sand to get to those places. Waders might be good unless you want to wet wade.

That's the best I can do with being specific. You have to figure out the best places on your own once you see the conditions. Not every place will hold fish, again depending on the tide.

Watch where you park, the Island Police are not lenient about parking. Otherwise, they're pretty cool.

BTW, it's not anything like trout fishing in a stream. ;)

The older fellow at Bass Pro Shops is always helpful, not sure when he works. He also does a fly tying class for free on Sunday afternoons. If you just want to have fun with fish the surf has pomps and pins that will hit a fly in the summer. Not much size but fun. Late July and early August in the mornings are the best since the breeze has not picked up yet, the vacationers are not on the beach, and the surf is usually glass calm. Pomps are often in the surf in less than knee high water, again not monster fish.

So, you'll be fishing the Charleston area rivers then? I've yet to fish them, so can't offer a lot of help. There's a Charleston area website (charlestonfishing.com) that has some recent info & reports that may help you. Not a lot of fly fishers there either, but more than here.

You sounded like an a**hole with your other post, but we'll take you at your word.

Anyway, hope you have some success! :D

BTW, since you're military, there's a short stay area near Moncks Corner on Lake Moutrie. If you have the chance you might want to check it out. Won't be saltwater, but I'll bet you can find some fish to chase with flies! :)

I live up near Lake Marion & fly fishing for the Striped Bass in the lakes is something I'm looking to pursue! :D

If in North Myrtle you can head to Cherry Grove, park near 52nd avenue, and walk over the old bridge and fish the inlet. Been a couple years since I did it but if that's still available you can fly fish it. Thanks for your service.
