Matlacha (12:30 - 8:15)

Beautiful day with light breeze...unfortunately slow tides(real slow)!

Most of the day was slack with very few fish caught. Some sk8s, puffers, toads and some snapper. Action had a short run towards the end. Landed 1 trout(19") 3 cats, 2 sailcats, and another sk8 and snapper. Trout found its way home!! :D :D
Bite started about 6:15 and was more or less over by 7:45. Live shrimp was the only real action. People couldn't give away pinfish or greenbacks! No action at all on lures or jigs.
Although I should be taking note of slack tide issue...landing even 1 keeper trout was worth it. Add to that I lost two of something as I wasn't up on the reel fast enough...wasn't expecting the sudden charge toward me! From the way they fought...have suspicion they were also trout.

All said...a beautiful day!!

Jighead,

Good to see your still hard at it and I'm envious of the fishing & weather

FYI, if pups are around - puppy drum/small redfish will pick up a bait, run at you, line goes slack, and ya can't catch/keep up with'em. FYI2, after talking w/Valdosta John tonight cast some topwater at them Specks and see what happens ;)

Although still to early may take the `bucket out this weekend anyway just to go

Hook up-reel fast,

Bucket,

After hitting that trout, I kept main line out and close eye on it. At the same time with other rod I threw the tackle box at em. It was still worth the extra effort as I became better with the poppers. Hoping for some tide movement and I'll go back after them. Doesn't look promising tomorrow but might go for casting practice. Hopefully you'll pick-up a few up your way!!

Tight lines,

Jighead
