like them for fresh water and am wondering how a big one would work for surf duty.
seems like there are only a few with enough capacity and they are costly.
anybody using one that could give me an opinion?

I have been kicking this same thing around since last summer. I have had the chance to try a couple. One was a Shimano, not sure what model. The pther was the Daiwa Lexa. I mounted and fished both the 300 and 400 models. What a fine reel they were. The 400 is a BIG reel for its type. The 300 fit my needs just fine. They arre pricey but well worth the price.

Okuma Komodo. Or the new Daiwa Lexa CC. Both have clickers Or my next reel, not technically low profile but sweet. The Daiwa royoga shrapnel.

I had a 300 for throwing boo ya rigs from shore. It sang with the non-disenging level wind and regular power pro. I sold it because of no clicker on the one I had and I just couldn't lose anymore expensive rigs with a reel that limited me. I want another with a clicker so I get multiple uses out. And if/when I do get another I'm going with an 8 strand braid. I got a reel with daiwa J braid on it right now and holy cow does that stuff fly off the reel through the guides.

Lite tackle at its best
Heck ya. I was using one of those triple umbrella rigs with it for the shad run. I think the head on the rig was 3/4 oz and I added a 1 oz bullet weight Carolina rigged. 2 spoons on the outside wires, gold and silver, and a red and white dart in the middle. Boy did it cast and cover a lot of river. And 2 bulldogin shad at once is a blast. Gonna get the Trifecta this spring
