Sorry for your loss. My Father was my best friend and fishing partner. I was lucky enough to have a son who loves fishing as much as dad. He is always with me now and I see so much of dad in my son. I am sure your friend would want you to continue to fish and be happy.

I remember my old fishing buddy died 20 years ago, we fished almost every day, a lot of times all day long, when he died I tried to get my other friends to fish, and some still do at times but I got tired of people backing out at the last moment or not showing up on time. now I fish alone all the time and love it. wouldn't have it any other way

I'm a loner, too, most of the time. Sure, I like fishing with a buddy, but most times no one else can go since I'm retired. I love the solitude, the pace, not having to worry if he/she is catching enough fish since we usually use my boat, etc. I do like people, but...you get my drift. That having been said, the older I get, the safer it is to be with someone else. JMHO, of course...

I'm sorry to hear the bad news. A good fishing buddy is hard to come by. I had a few as a teen. We'd go after school, but there were varying levels of intensity. Some fished once a week. I fished about 5 days a week. As an adult I've often continued on as a solo act. In the Navy I'd be the only guy fishing off the side of the aircraft carrier. 5000 guys and no one interested in hitting a local fishing spot....only in drinking and chasing women. Over the years I've had a few drop in and out of my life. All with different personalities and interest...some wanting to leave early, some cleptos, others not wanting to pitch in ($) and changing or not wanting to change fishing spots when it's dead. For the most part they've been riding partners...I drive, they sleep or talk to keep me awake; buddies to talk crap with; safety nets when the going gets rough; watching my treasured gear while I go take a pee;...someone to be competitive with....sharing the expensive cost of bait or talking about the new rod/reel that's come out. However, I'd have to agree with Andy and Snakeater. I love fishing...solo or with a bud. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Either way, don't stop fishing. Instead, visit your (and your buddy's) favorite fishing spots and know that he is there with you in spirit :fishing:

That was a good post. Thanks for your service in Navy. A friend of mine told me the same story about no one wanted to fish with him in the navy. He said he caught all kinds of fish off the ship, and the cook would cook it for the guys. Thanks!

Sorry for your loss. I know first hand what it's like to lose your fishing buddy. Mine was my father and he's been gone for over 6 years now.

Keep your chin up and continue to do what you love to do. Our buddies would want it that way.
