So I'm taking advice from some people on here and perusing pickerel at loch raven this coming week. Figured I should bring some crappie gear too, couldn't hurt. I've never fished loch raven, or for pickerel before, so does anyone have any advice? I'm taking a little bit of everything from the bass box-poppers, rat-L-traps, worms. I don't even know where I can park so any info would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking of starting at the Dunley valley bridge but just going to wing it from there. Thanks in advance

Red and white daredevil spoon. Nothin better. Buy the cheap knock offs cause pond pike dont care. They get better when a little paint chips off and some silver shines through. Jigs and lures work too but jigs snag on a slow retrieve and lures cost too much. I'll take a red and white spoon all day. And cast at an ambush point. Rocks...bridge piling, weed bed.....current seem over a depth change. Fresh water fishing -- If u ain't snaggin' u aint catchin'

Andy will be up soon fishing cause that's what he does. While we are sleeping he's gonna bang out a dinners worth of crappie on little jigs and live minnows under a float. Or something completely different cause that's what he does. ...my advise stinks but is an option...... You The Man Andy

I use to fish Lock Raven when I was in my teens living in East Baltimore. Don't know if they will let you now, but we use to catch crappie were they rent boats. It was good in winter when the boat renting place was closed. Look for a place that has a falling tree or bush in the water, the fish will be in or around that. Never fished for pickerel there, never caught one there. Bass -Purple Worm, Crappie-Little jigs under a bobber close to something in the water, if you know what I mean. Good Luck!

I think mepps spinner are probably one of the best lures for catching them, but you'll get lots of snags and have to usually pull grass off after almost every cast. Anything shiny works, I usually like casting spoons, my favorites is a silver minnow since its weedless and lowers the chance of snags. normally I just target Bass, you catch more then enough pickerel with Bass lures

Rent a john boat for about 60.00 hit some of the coves. throw 4-6 inch minnows at the shore and retrieve at a medium speed. You will pull in pickerel. I live about ten minutes away
and it works for me. Some of these coves have a drop of about 20' of the shore. You can work that drop for bass.

That's a pretty steep price David! I'll have to stick to shore fishing haha. Thanks for the tips though!

I was tucked away under the bridge or it would have been miserable! Apparently people fish off the top of the bridge there, seems like quite a ways to haul a fish, it's a good 3-4 stories from the water
