Staying in Frisco for 6 days starting June 26. If surf fishing is slow I might head up to a pier a day or two for Spanish. Which pier should I try? What's the best method for live baiting the big ones (3-4+ lbs) from the pier? Do I have to pinrig or can I freeline out a bait? Can I use braid? Fluoro or light wire? Interested in how you folks do it.

Avon would be my first choice IF water is green to clear.. Yes you could liveline, but it would probably be to crowded to do so.. A gotcha plug will catch all the Spanish you want.. Yes,braid is all cool on that pier.. Flouro is the leader of choice from 20-30..
Thanks DD. Staying with you btw not sure if I mentioned it in the emails. Could I take a light pin rig setup with 40 lb fluoro or very light wire and slide out a little greenback or something on Avon while I throw a Gotcha?

Yes,I'm sure no one will mind that.. ALTHOUGH,I saw 2 tarpon at the pier about a week or so ago.. All it would take to screw up your whole day would be a monster tarpon to eat that greenback on light tackle.. Course it would be fun while it lasted.... :D

He could always use the old phart method, instead of live lining............drum rod, 6-8 oz pyramid, cast out..........then slide a 3' 47# malin leader with a treble on a snap down that line.....lotsa everything caught on that rig many moons ago.
