trying to get some advice on best bait to use that time of year for a variety of fish, puppies, trout,etc. just throwing bottom rig. Thanks in advance

Cut mullet, and shrimp, if you're fishing a regular two hook bottom rig.. You'll probably pick up Va Mullet (Whiting), northern puffers, an occasional spot.
