Drum, of any color, are not in the same league with Kings or Cobia.

The big Drum are powerful and tenacious, but are really just an overgrown Croaker.

When it comes to Kingfish and Cobia, you really don't have to choose.

They're found in the same waters at the same times, more or less.

From the piers on Nags Head and Hatteras, the guys fishing "King" rigs take as many Cobia as they do Kings.

I'm a drum fan myself.. Caught some nice cobes,up to 80lbs but they all fight like sharks to me,they do jump and pull like the devil though.. Kings are a "smoke the line" pullem in deal..I've caughtem up to 50lbs and there's nothin like watchin one sky a live bait! Don't get me wrong I like em all,I just like the "type"of fight a drum gives with all that buckin action and rolling around on the top,and there's NOTHING like sight casting a jig into a school of em and hookin up!!;)

Since I've never caught a cobe or a king, I'll say red drum. Biggest was 46" and they're one hell of a fight. I like something that puts up a dogged fight but doesn't take all day to bring in. I lose interest after awhile.
