Don't know about Key West, but have you thought about bridge fishing on the way down? We're in Key Largo, now, and having fun 'bridging' in Islamorada daily. A medium action rod, 5-6 ft, with shrimp or squid will get you started. Fish moving water. Dead slack tide is a waste of effort. Channel two or channel five bridges, long key and Tom's Harbor bridges are worth a visit.
