Okay, my two cents worth. I use 10' and 11' Ocean Master rods, with penn 6500 reels. Usually 15lb tes line, with 30lb shock leader. Use fish finder set up and depending on winds and currents, anywhere from 3 oz to 10 oz of lead. Couple of good sites on surf-fishing, but don't want to link here (I thing may be politically incorrect). I will try to email you a few articles though.

Surf-fishing is great though and at Assateague Island, usually only fish from late September, early October through May. Stripers usually run pretty good during these times as do the blues. Only problem may be the wind and rain and cold, but well worth the discomfort if prepared.
