Nicely done on not calling it quits since it paid off big time! I'm new to tog fishing and I finally got in to a tug with one last week at IRI. I then had so many rod taps but for the life of me I could not get another hook up. How do you manage to increase your tap to hook up ratio?
I believe I have the basics down in regards to gear, good solid rod 8'0'', basic heavy reel and standard rig with a 2/0 octopus hook. Thanks and hope to see you out there rain or shine.
First one I had a light taps and I grabed the rod then a tug and I snatch her.
2nd the bigger one I did not catch, the fish got caught whole I was fixing the rig after a snag.
I had a bell on tip of the rod and kept ringing and the rod was dancing like crazy, I ran and grabbed the rod and she was there.
Now you know why I was lucky LOL.
I use Lami 8' MMF and 10' MMF surf and jetty.
Like the 8 better.
Be there on Thanksgiving in around 9AM.
