I don't know about conference eels never ate them but monger eels which you catch while fishing for seabass or ling is delicious. Long white meat fillet. And American eels if you like catfish you will like them as well
The most of my friends eat Conger Eel. Somehow eel and catfish intimidate me. I have eaten snakes. No problem with snakes. One day, I will eat a small one to overcome scaleless fish phobia.

Funny story: Years ago, I caught a 2 to 2 1/2 foot eel in the Chesapeake bay. I had never eaten an eel and had always wanted to try one so that one looked like a very good candidate. I took it home and put it in the kitchen sink while I gathered my cleaning tools. Well, here comes my wife, who is petrified of snakes, and my two young daughters, then about 10 and two, to see the eel. It was laying there all dead like until I turned the water on. They were all gathered around peering down into the sink when the water hit the eel and it immediately began wiggling like mad. Then bedlam broke loose. I had three screaming females going in about six different directions all at once. It took a while for things to calm down. Needless to say, my wife was not very happy with me after that. I did eventually clean and cook it, but I was not very impressed with it. It certainly not worth facing the threats about bringing home any more eels.
