Although I've never fished the mouth of the indian River inlet, it's my understanding that there is a campground/beach access area near the marina. Has anyone out there fished this area? I'm looking for a good place to camp (tent) and surf fish for a long weekend this June for some blues. A.I. was my first thought, but I'd rather donate my blood to the Red Cross and not the hoards of 'skeeters and black flies down there at this time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks-

I haven't camped there, but YES, there is a campground there. Yes it is good fishing there. You can fish the inlet (fast moving current) with lures (bucktails) OR you can go to the other side of the river and walk to the mouth and surf fish the ocean.

Rock Fish,
Just my take on IRI camping, for what it's worth.
My wife and I have camped there and I would rate it an 8.5 when the fish are in it.
Nicest thing about it is that the camp sites are up to the inlet railing so you can comfortably fish all night with in sight or even talking distance of your camp.
They also provide spickets and cleaning tables for all those hogs you anticipate catching.
Generally fvery few bugs and the rest of the people there, I've found, are there to fish too.

:) Thanks Kayode and SharkHunter - good info. Good luck to both of you this season - by the number of posts showing-up on this board in the past few days, I'd say things are starting to heat up. Time to plant the sand stakes and watch the waves!

your best bet is to check in at the park office. camping[tent] is permitted, but only in the southside old campground. check to be sure. there is good fidhing all around you,but don't be afraid to ask someone. if you go out on thew jettiesbe careful. very slippery. if you must, buy korkers. they are about $50/pare but will save your life. mine never leave my car any other time.
