Update, 1/23/03: After a two-day search by air and sea, the day after the initial sighting , this whale was not re-sighted. The search was conducted by FMRI and NEAq researchers with the intention of tagging and assessing the whale for disentanglement if deemed necessary. Researchers are ready for any future sightings of this whale during normal surveys of the right whales making use of this habitat (to date, 14 mother/calf pairs have been sighted in this region).
