I am looking to build a pier rod or 2 pier fishing for kings, cobia, etc. I have fished some from the pier at Panama City and see a range of outfits used. I am thinking about building one to match a Penn 4500 (30 lb. braid) and a Penn 8500 (30 mono or 50 braid). What specs would you want in a rod to match these reels as far as length, line weight, action, strength etc?
Ideal pier rod?
