So this week I brought my friend Julie down to do some fishing and hang out for the Fourth.
Wednesday was a washout because of the rain. Thursday we went out on the Seagull and caught lots of little croaker and watched a few small sharks come in. Afterwards, we went crabbing back on Crab Creek and got around 10 good sized blue crabs. I even caught a seahorse in the cast net.
Friday we hit my favorite hole (no I will not give it up
) and Julie pulled in a huge roundhead (whiting/kingfish/sea mullet) in a matter of minutes. Shortly thereafter I had a 22" black drum. The rest of the day was dead. We took her fish in to be weighed since I thought it was a citation. The fish measured 1-12, well above the 1-8 necessary for a citation.
Saturday pretty much sucked, as the wind had swung to the SW and the water muddied up and was full of skates. We had no luck.
Long story short, I opened the paper this morning to look at the category leaders in the Va. saltwater fishing tournament this year. Turns out the category leader for roundhead is 1-9, which means that her 1-12 is the state leader.
I will never live this down.
