just got back from the field and something happened that has not happened to me before. four casts in a row my line broke between 45 and 50 paces(about 150') into the cast. i'm backcasting a grey's pz300t with a 5500 knobby mag. it happens just before i can begin releasing the mags. starting mags a 1/4 turn off. any ideas??????

Hi Charlie,

It seems that you are casting harder than previously, and the reel is too fast to stay together. A good problem I would think.

Try thicker oil or add a mag to your collection in the reel.

try opening the drag all the way, i was having the same problem and found that the free spool button was popping up. also put on a small single paddle handle so that my hand or forearm wouldn't hit it during the cast. i did all these things and solved the problem. also had the 5500 with knobby. tres has the small single paddle at hatteras outfitters.

thanks for the replies, i thought i had solved the problem of my front side counterbalance hitting the handle, but maybe not. will add some thicker glop, loosen the drag and see what happens.
