I found this floating i

n the ditch next to our office this morning. Can anyone help identify it? Length is approximately 3" long. Notice how far back the fins are..........
I hope it is a bowfin..........the other choice would not be good for this area. I am not sure but this ditch could connect to the Elizabeth River as i am not far from the hot ditch at all.

Looks like a finger mullet that has been floating around dead for a while. The dorsal fin isn't right for a bowfin or snakehead and that head area looks very mullety

the Elizabeth River project got back to me first, they believe it to be a female striped killifish..........if so someone just dumped their aquariim

It's what many folks around here call gudgeons or mud minnows.

Definitely a killifish. It more than likely lost most of its color after it died.

It's a mummichog, type a killifish, most people just call them gudgeons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mummichog
