Hey guys i will be in suffolk area near hobson from sunday til friday and was looking on information on what fish i should be targeting or where. I see suffolk had some lakes, but was not sure if freshwater were biting this time of year. Also should I stay in suffolk area or should i travel east towards norfolk/chesapeake for more salt? Im really just trying to kill some time and hopefully land some fish as I am not too picky on what it is haha. thanks guys

One of the brackish lakes at Lone Star Lakes holds catfish, but they don't bite often from the shore when it's cold out. Don't know how the bite is at Bennet's Creek Park during winter. The James River Bridge pier could be an option, but I don't know what is gong on there either.

From what I've been reading, Lesner bridge in VA Beach might be your best bet.

Trout bite is almost dead....probably holds stripers, but I would steer clear of that area for the sake of safety....crazy currents and now the water temps are probably below 50.

If you want to spend the $$$$, the charter fleet has been putting clients on trophy stripers in the Cape Charles area.

Bob's Fishing Hole has posted decent results from their crappie tournaments along the North Landing River. They do rent jonboats for $20 a day. My winter fishing plans will shift towards FW crappie, white, and yellow perch/ the small but tastier things.

Just oars but yes you can bring your own electric or small gas motor. It's also on the North West River not the North Landing. Crappie and jumbo yellow perch are really heating up out there. The possibility of a big blue cat exist too. Although not even close to the James River blue fishery
