Don't know much about the surf there but in the inlet they are starting to get some nice stripers on white bucktail jigs. Last time I was down there saw a 25" get pulled out just before sunset. And saw many a boat floating eels all around the inlet. They are there but it may take some work to get em.
I have used plugs but I do just fine with a IRI buckail rig(1/4-1/2oz bucktail ahead of a 1 1/2-2oz trolling sinker).Drifting Sand Fleas or Eels,or Livelinig a Spot could work. That IRI bucktail rig is all I would use on a lightweight 8 1/2-9 ft St Croix or Tica rod rated for 1/2-3 ozes with a high gear ratio spinning reel.
