I am going to harbor island in a few weeks for the first time. Not sure what to expect. Any help on what to fish for or where would be great. I plan on fishing hunting island some but would like to find fish walking distance from the condo. I will have a few med action spinning rods as well as a 13 ft surf rod with 40# power pro braid.

Gear sounds right. Take a cast net for bait and a crab trap. Go off the ramp from the condo and head south till you can't go any more. That is Johnson Creek full of big stuff to catch. We were there 6-13-17 and got into some good crabbing

Thanks for the info. I just want to catch something a little bigger than the pin fish and ft long sharks I usually catch In Myrtle. What species are in there this time of year.

Unfortunately for you there are sharks and rays. But the good news is that they can get 6 ft long. We fish for bull reds with as much mullet as you can get on a 3x 7/0 hook with 4 oz weight on a 6ft steel leader Carolina rigged. Tarpon have been caught there as well as flounder and whiting. As I said earlier the crabbing was good 2 weeks ago.

best time for fishing is 3hrs before and after high tide. It is about a short of a mile walk. Just watch the tides so you don't get stranded on the beach.
