I went looking for yellow perch, and found some, and some crappie. caught all fish in about 8' of water with a plain 1/16th jig head and a minnow down near the bottom. No bobber. Jerry is right. Best to fish with minnows right now. Fish Fish Tilapia Sardine Fish products

I posted this response on the other board but I will post it here also.

Looks to me like you had more than a little action. I guess minnows vs. plastics all depends. Last week I fished the river and out caught the guys fishing next to me by at least 4 to 1. They were using minnows and I was using plastics. I think a lot of it was I kept my plastics moving in a slow retrieve and they for the most part let their minnows sit dead on the bottom. In the local creek, minnow tipped darts out fish plastics, so go figure.

I went yesterday with a friend on his boat and we fished a mix of plastics and darts tipped with minnows. We had a slow day and never did find any big fish. I caught a fish on the first cast and we began catching lots of small fish on plastics. We probably caught 40 -50 fish with five small keepers. Then they moved and we were never able to get onto them again in any numbers. If the fish will cooperate, I prefer to use plastics because I have less down time than when messing with the minnows.

Need I mention that it was cold on the water?

Thanks Jerry, your right again. It all depends on when and where you are fishing. I will know when to fish with lures. Yes it was cold yesterday, even fishing from shore. Nice boat!! It is going to be cold and windy today, but I will give it a try this morning. Got to find a Chucky Hole with wind at my back.

Andy, have you ever tried the Leland Crappie Magnets? The glow chartreuse and glow green and chartreuse are killers for YP in the river and they are cheap. A bag of 50 bodies is $4.99 from their online store but shipping can double that unless you buy quantities. A bag of 15 is less than $2.00 at Dicks if they have them in stock. The trout magnets in glow, bubble gum or chartreuse are great on a 1/32 or 1/64 head under a weighted float for crappie and perch in the local creek as well. The Trout Magnet packs are cheaper at Dicks or Walmart ($1.99) than on line though.

Went to the local creek this afternoon. Fishing was slow and they were taking the bait so softly that it was often hard to tell if they were biting at all. I caught several fish and most were between 8 and 8 31/32 inches but no keepers. Well actually I might have had one or two that were 9 but they were too close to worry about. All were caught on tandem 1/32 oz. darts tipped with minnows about four feet under a weighted float. The bottom lure was a green chartreuse with a green polar flash tail and the top lure was purple with a light purple mylar tail. The bottom lure caught the most fish but I couldn't tell you if it was the color or the fact that it was just closer to the bottom but I did have two doubles today. Next time out, I will rig the purple one on the bottom and see if it catches the most.

The chartreuse green dart is the one on the right and the "purple" dart is the one on the left. The "purple" one is some kind of finger nail polish that I found. It is a bright pink indoors but when the sunlight hits it, it turns a deep purple. I would prefer that it stayed the bright pink but it is what it is. Fish didn't seem to care that it was a dark purple though.
