My heartfelt prayers to your friend, Aaron, and thank you so much, for presenting this side of the coin. If all of us (and many do) knew someone in this situation, it might calm some nerves and stop people from pointing fingers, not to mention making stereotypical remarks, about your fellow man.

Sandflea - I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. If a human error was committed, hopefully, he'll have full legal recourse to enable him to get his treatment. Our court systems, flawed as they are, are also a very uniquely American institution, and they do still serve a valuable, and sometimes, noble purpose.

Unfortunately, one side in politics is always clamoring about the "greater good", while another side is beating on about "don't tread on me". Sometimes, each side is a little bit right. Lots of times, they are both majorly wrong. Politics is full of grand illusions, but it is incapable of addressing the human side of issues. Politics are just an ends to a means, no matter what your persuasion or intentions.

In either case, it's a great injustice to the citizenry to shut down a government. We pay for that. Even if it's not being used the way we individually like it, money was promised, goals were set, expectations made. It's pretty sad that anyone would think that it's OK to let our infrastructure go to **** while we have a debate. Reminds me of that old adage about Nero fiddling while Rome burned...

sand flea my neighbor is dealing with a lot of the same issue. He does not have insurance because of pre existing (which I can not share here) He has been so sick and been in and out of the hospitals for the last few weeks. i have sat with him, brought him and have been pretty involved. at one point the hospital was reluctant to admit him. Im convinced it was because he was uninsured. I looked at the Doc and said" You cant send him home, he cant talk without being short of breath, his blood pressure is running 160/120 I am a respiratory therapist and not prone to over reacting because well Ive been doing this for almost 30 years and I know a sick man when I see him".. Okay so they admitted him and sent him home 2 days later....... a week later hes miserable again. we take him to the "Private" hospital they do a scan and hes got a freekein clot in his lung and leg. so now hes admitted and they are not sending him home because if they did he would probably be dead..... my point is with the affordable care act he can now get insurance and be treated as he should. Also by the way my husband will be able to get insurance for the first time due to his diabetes (I cant tell you how many times insurance was ready to sign him up until we said diabetes. They wouldn't just exclude the condition they flat out refused to cover him even though we were willing to pay $400 or more a month.) so as far as the shut down? I dont want to get into it because they are all acting like idiots but as far as health care? Im all for it... okay there I said it... I wasnt going to jump in until sandflea shared... I just know how ya feel dude

So what say you, P&S friends? I'm going to see him tomorrow. He's out of work and dealing with cancer. He's a 32-year-old hardworking American. Should I call him a freeloader and tell him to go to an Emergency Room and deal with it? Should I tell him he's nothing but a freeloading welfare queen who needs to go off and die in a corner like a patriotic American who hates socialism? If it sounds like I'm angry, I am. I am FURIOUS. This shutdown has put him out of work and he's literally facing his possible death. I usually stay out of these debates and I think Obamacare is nothing but a giveaway to insurance companies but if you think he deserves to die I have a single finger for you and the people in the House of Representatives keeping this ****show going.
Damn, nothing I could ever say can match that testimony Matt. I hope things improve for your friend. I'm done

Anyone dealing with potential life threatening issues are smack dab in the middle for sure. Hearing about reform, seeing it progress, and seeing it dealt blows adds to the stress. I'll spare yall the stuff I'm dealing with. And the hopes of seeing light at the end of the tunnel that lifted me up. Having the switch turned off cause of a crack that extends thru a large chunk of this good ole US of A.
WTH and WTH Their back up plan.

This video is of the Governor of Kentucky, a state with 2 Republican Senators who always have a lot to say, explaining why he chose to have Kentucky participate in the healthcare exchange. The second link is to the Op Ed he wrote for the NY Times last week.

Too many people think this is healthcare from the Govt. when it is private insurance from the same insurance companies who are in the business right now. This is not a "single carrier" type plan, nor is it "socialized medicine". It is opening up the existing medical insurances to people who will get assistance if needed on their premiums, but if you go on the web sites and look at it, there are many companies to choose from.

Affordable Care Act... Sorry but if they couldn't afford health insurance what make you think the can afford it when it goes up 120% and the deductible doubles ? They fall in the same boat with everyone in my tax bracket, they can't ! The last part about boosting the economy and creating jobs.. That will only happen if people can afford to buy it

Not yet. If it's the same overall why the tremendous premium hikes? My son is on many meds. One of which cost the insurance co. $12,000 a month. I have already been told this will not be covered on the next renewal.

But the thing is you can change insurance companies and now not worry about being denied because of his pre-existing condition.

Maybe so but I have looked at the marketplace and my premium is a bit lower but the deductible is much higher as well as the copay's. The first year the gov. marketplace is only going to offer 1 choice which is not nearly as good as I have now.

It's not a "single carrier plan" yet, but it will be and the government will be the "single carrier". That is the purpose when the gov. controls your health care, they also control you and everything in your life.

It's the law. If you don't like it then get a majority and repeal it. Not sure why some people are having such a difficult time comprehending that. Flea, I hope your friend gets well.

Yep and it starts in November. With the approval rating on a steady drop that may just happen. By that time a lot of us may be off "The Grid" and not worry about it. The biggest mistake this country has ever made. We the people did it, we the people can un-did it.....Just wait till the Obamaphones and Obomabucks run out. That's when the chit will hit the fan....

Well a poll released just yesterday and reported in the House Chamber, "Dog poop had a 45% favorable rating to House of Representatives at 40%" That was probably a poll taken of the House members by the way.

And as you mentioned Mike, it all changes in November, when Nancy Pelosi becomes the Speaker of the House yet again, because the Republican held House can't find a speaker with the balls to stand up to 30-35 ultra right wing zealots who would rather burn the proverbial "house" down than put water on the fire. I would be surprised if you ever see another Republican held House and Senate in your life time. I'm still willing to help you find some comfy place outside of the U.S. to move to if you want the help! No Charge for you!

You were a convenient example. Besides, I love it when the moderators laugh, while they're sitting back doing nothing... I was just having a conversation with Shooter and Bubba the other day about what we could do to single out LRJ, and get away with stuff that he can't, cause we're in the best good friends club...
For the record, you should put something there to indicate that you are kidding. No such conversation took place between the two of us, and (even if you're trying to get a rise out of someone) people who visit the board do not need to think that the mods are conspiring to single out users. That's pretty uncool, actually. I don't know how I got dragged into this at all.

I don't agree with LRJ's conclusions a lot of the time, and he knows this, but I think there's a certain element of truth to this "The sky is falling" mentality among many folks. That's how I interpreted the "paranoia" business.
