I'm a newby here, most of my experience in surf fishing is the Florida Panhandle, Perdido Key. My question is about ghost or sand shrimp. I'm coming to Ocean City for vacation and was curious if they are used? I'm bring with me a 11', two 9' and a 7.5 ft rods If using shrimp, does fresh mean alive or dead such as from a seafood market? I've heard good things about the Outpost and Perry's for bait, but if anyone has suggestions or recommendations, I'm certainly open. Also needing some suggestions for a fresh seafood market.

Thanks in advance

My rule of thumb for "fresh shrimp" is....if I won't eat it after the trip, I prolly dont want to use it as bait. I never buy frozen shrimp anymore, just because it is usually very stinky. I go to a fish market and just make sure the shrimp stays well iced, whatever is left after a day of fishing is part of the meal for me :) I have used live shrimp on the beach before, but its hard to keep alive without an aerator.

I'm coming to visit Garden City. sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for your rule of thumb, T. Kind of my philosophy as well. I'm going back and forth about bringing my aerator and if its worth it for the live shrimp or if fresh dead work just as well.

One of my best days of surf fishing at SGI was with live shrimp fished on a double drop rig.....I caught keeper pompano, trout, flounder, sheepshead, whiting and black drum on live shrimp. Never again have I had such a mixed bag of keepers from the surf. It was one of those days where it was nice and sunny, but not too hot. Therefore I could keep the shrimp in the shade and not lose too many of them too quickly. I have tried live shrimp since then and just can't keep em alive long enough to be effective. But, freshly dead shrimp would be a close second to live.
