I was able to make a quick reconnaissance trip after a short day at work today(4-22). Fished the last two hours of the outgoing. Ooooh, water looked as good as I've seen it as of late, nice green tint and felt good. The bite was good until the water stopped moving. Fish that hit the sand; one long looking pup shark, many smallish Whiting up to 10", my first Bluefish of the year or more precisely one half of a nice Bluefish. This blue was still kicking after a big pull down on the grocery rod. Yep', toothy critters seem to be in the wash. Had my first quality hit on the big rod, it shook off a 5 oz gemini on a five second run, reeled in a empty hook and a mangled rig.

Hitting the beach early SAT for a shot at some Pompano action, maybe a nice Blacktip. Forecast of light westerly winds, cleanish water, a little less than 7' high tide early morning, man, I my not sleep tonight.

Well I couldn't find parking to get out where I wanted or where I could cast net on Tybee, I miss when no one really knew about it. The guys on the back river pier where catching small whiting. I went and headed to the marsh in Thunderbolt and chased down a bunch of fiddlers for tomorrow so I'll have something for bait if I can't find some minnows to net.

Here is a picture from yesterdays trip, good looking surf huh?

A front passed by that evening and dropped a hard rain, conditions changed for the worse. Today (4-23), I went to that same stretch of beach before sun up, set up and had hopes of a big time fun catching day. Here is what it looked like at about daylight. Water was not as clean and the bite was definitely not on.

Fished 6am till noon, last of the incoming to middle of the outgoing. Tried FB's, fresh shrimp, and fresh cut mullet on the grocery rods. Dang it, slow going all morning, still I keep busy landing pup sharks, saucer sized Rays, many dink Whiting, and a couple horseshoe crabs. Some tourists from Minnisota were pretty freaked out about the horseshoe crabs and Stingrays. I of course, let on that these animals are very rare and almost extinct and they had the special privilege of seeing um' before they were gone. Tourists can be fun on slow fishing days, don't cha know.

On the big rod I landed one average looking Atlantic Sharpnose at about 30" and woo hoo ya'll, my second ever healthy looking 3' Spinner shark. The picture does not do it justice, as the color and markings on this Spinner were exceptional.

I tried back river by the fishing pier but both that lot and the boat launch lot where full with people driving back and forth waiting for a spot so I headed to Polk and Bayer and no spots at either. Skipped Tybee yesterday and just went to the Wilmington Park Pier and drowned some bait. Never got a chance to net some bait so just used the fiddlers and some dead shrimp. Landed two keeper blue crabs, and a ray. Guy there got a decent whiting.

Trout had been spotted in the area the day before (sat) but no hook ups and the water was too murky Sunday to see if they where still around.

ETA: still better than a day at work though

Man, I wish I could tell you about some secret spot for parking, but for those two spots on Tybee, early bird gets the worm and all. Get your butt up early and parking will not be of any concern, promise! Besides early morning fishing is always more productive.

Yep', Trout are becoming active and will catchable beachside any day now. Looking for a solid report from you, with pics?

I'm trying to make it out one or times this week in the evening and a full on day this weekend. It's time to fish.
