if you were going to build a rod for back-casting(conventional), which side of the spline would put the guides on?

reverse pendulum

charlie, you will find as you grow more comfortable with the backcast that it is nothing more than a reverse pendulum. as such [imho] you can keep the guides on same side of the rod as you would any conventional setup. having said that i respectfully defer to p. thain who is much more of an authority on the subject.

How do you ring yours !!

My rods are rung on the side that creates less problems for the caster.

After a few years and plenty of phone calls, I decided to make my life easier - I ring mine on the softer side (Multipliers) this way I'm not fighting the rod and there is less chance of the rod trying to snake during the cast. ;)
