I've fished Buckroe a couple times now, and used gulp on 1/4 oz jig head. I feel I'm not being patient enough, or that I'm fishing at wrong time. I'm fishing at night, during high tide. I've seen a flounder caught on this pier at night and during the day. Does it sound like I'm doing something wrong, or need to be more patient, bouncing under the pier? Thanks for any suggestions!!!

You could try a heavier jig head like 3/8 or 1/2 oz. or tie up a Skinner flounder rig as seen on You Tube. Maybe switch up from Gulp to a squid/minnow sammich. Hopefully jigging up and down the pier you will find them. Good luck.

I've caught a few flounder there but they've been undersized. Last year I was bouncing a gulp all around the pier and only managed a 14" flounder. Like Fish'n Phil said, you may want to try minnows as well. Also don't be afraid to fish shallow water or around cleaning tables. Good luck!

Live bait would be your best bet too. I was talking to NOB Legend and he uses a rig thats kind of like a fish finder but with live bait. Ive only caught a few all flounder and in my research ive done john skinners way and live bait is the way to go.

Buckroe can be hit or miss . I've caught some keepers and seen plenty. my go to is always live gudgeons just walk around look for deep pockets around the pier they are there . When it's slow I like to use a tandem rig with gulp same thing jig around the pier until you find them they are there .

I’ve never targeted flounder at night and I’ve never fished Buckroe before. I have fished for flounder from a pier. I would use a two hook bottom rig with a thin wire long shank hook with a minnow and drop straight down or drag bottom.

I am no flounder expert for sure, but lately I have had good luck with them at night. Not at Buckroe pier and from a kayak, but I think the method could apply most any pier with good lights. I have been focusing on pier and dock lights in shallow water (6 to 10 Ft) and directly under the lights. I have been timing it with the current and not the tide and have been fishing about 1-1/2 hour before slack current, during slack and then an hour or so after the current starts moving again. That is when the baitfish and small crabs are more abundant under the lights. I have been using big baits (7" white Gulp jerk shads) on a 1 oz jig head with a long shank or 2 oz if the water is moving. It sounds like overkill, but I think it gets the bait down to the bottom quickly and when they hit it, they hit hard and take the whole thing in. Sometimes I jig it and sometimes slowly drag it across the bottom. If you see baby striper and blues busting bait in the lights, chances are there is a hungry flounder under them getting the injured and left overs. Here's one I caught last Saturday night around 11:30 PM
