Went late Sat afternoon for a few hours to see if I can catch a few Stripers but failed. Had something hooked but got off after a few head shakes. Oh well. Saw a lot of fish breaking most beyond casting distance from shore. Saw a lot of people fishing for Shad but only saw a few being landed.

First time there. Walked a good mile up and down the river. Some rough terrain in some of the areas with all the logs and debris. Seems like the deeper water is closer to the Va side. Next time i think I might wear my waders and walk along the shore line or rent a boat.

I would not wade from the VA side. There are places where it drops from 4-50ft within 5 yards of the shoreline. The rowboat rentals are very reasonable if you get a buddy and split the costs. I thought stripers are still protected right now to even catch and release? I know shad fisherman will still land some.

Fletcher's rowboat rentals, $25 a day, hard to beat to fish that stretch of river. I put my 30# Minnkota trolling motor on them. Works great unless the current is ripping after a storm.
Then head north up to Chain Bridge. Great fishery: Shad, Stripers, Walleye, Smallies and tons of big Blue cats.

NEVER WADE THAT STRETCH OF THE POTOMAC!!

Thanks guys for all the concerns and input. I was not planning on wading out far at all. Just right along the shoreline to avoid all the debris I had to climb over to get to some of the spots. Trust me. I value my life way too much to risk it for a fish. I will take everyone's input and cautiously giver another try once it warms up again. :)
