I'm finally going to spend the money on a 525mag, and was thinking of changing to Pline or Ande premium clear. I usually use trylene big game but can get a deal on the others. Also has anyone heard of shakespeare outcast mono line I was thinking of using it as my shock leader. Thanks.

Try Sufix Tritanium Plus - none better. Came out tops on breaking strain and specifically abrasion resistance a couple a years ago in Saltwater Sportsman and also in tests I did a year later. Never, repeat never try and save a few cents by reducing the quality of what attaches you to the fish, or not, as the case could well be! BB

On my 525MAG I have been using mostly 17lb Pline extra Strong. I started with 20lb Sufix on it and I use Sufix on most of my reels. But I just like the Pline, I would use it on more reels except it is too expensive. If you know where I can get a better price let me know.
Clear Ande or Big Game for shockleader.

As for the shock leader, use Trilene big game or Ande leader line anywhere from 50-100 lb. test but try to use the least lb. test for the shock leader that you can get away with because the large pound test decreases casting distances and drifts around in the ocean.

Any of your guys use the braided lines? For the last 2 yrs. I've been use Power Pro Puper Braid and really like it. It takes a little getting use to, the knot selection is critical and it's expensive. On the plus side you can go with a heavier test line becaues the dia. is smaller. 30# Power Pro has the same dia. as 8# mono. There is zero stretch so you can detect the slightest bite. It cast as smooth as silk. I gain about 30% more distance. It doesn't have a memory so there is no line twist. Invest a few buck$ and give it a try. You'll never go back to mono again. :D Just remember, the reel is for line storage, the rod plays the fish, but the only thing between you and that trophy fish is the LINE. Don't go cheap here.

flistell....Wow, 10# PP, must have the same dia. as 2-4# mono. You could slice cheese with that. I've never used it that small and I can see where cut-through would be a problem. I've used the uni - uni and it works well. See Black Beard's post.

Black Beard...That looks like an excellent knot. I've printed your instructions and will put it into my folder. Think I'll practice it tonight while watching TV. Good tip on using super glue. Even the tournament pros use it. I keep a tube of it in my tackle bag but sometimes (most of the time) I get lazy and don't use it. Guess I'll have to be a little (lot) more diciplined. :(

Use 10# PP on 8'6" Medium St Croix spinner throwing 3/4 to 1.0 oz jigs and spoons into the horizon. Be careful--can get cut real easy casting with this stuff. Always use finger protector.

Thanks for the advice on the knots--would like to try PP as the shock leader.

On my surf stuff I use 50# PP and no shock leader at, just my regular 36" 50# leader. Haven't lost a rig yet to snap off. If I find I need a finger guard I just wrap a piece of duct tape around it but that's very seldom.

Catman.
