Hi,
I am taking my wife to the outerbanks surf fishing in a couple of weeks and was looking for some ideas about what may be biting. I've just recently started surf fishing and would love to catch some cobia or big drum. Any suggestions? Will anything else be biting good in mid july?
Thanks

Mid July will produce smaller fish (spot, roundnose, pompano, etc). There should be Spanish with taylor blues mixed in from the piers and surf. I haven't heard of too many reports of cobes in the water lately and the big reds will be here later in the fall. Puppy drums will be in the surf too.

Contact Pirates Cove or OI Marinas to do some inshore fishing.

OR,if bug repellant doesnt work, take her to THE CHALET in Nags Head, they have a LOT of nice jewelery, and trinkets there. When I was in obx last week the wind was enough to keep the mosquitoes and biting flies away. The biting flies are worse than the skeeters IMHO. The best fishing lately has been north of Buxton so I am told. The point is usually too crowded when the fish are really on "the bite".;) ;)
