First time at Choptank this weekend

Now I don't blame the pier but it was a crummy "day" of fishing. Storm came in right as high tide was going out. The most bites I got were on myself from the misquitos. We each got one good size croaker Sat. night and 1 baby I didn't know was snagged until I checked my bait. That was the only thing caught Sunday morning by us, another baby on the line.

One lucky fellow had a Rockfish and walked it to a net. Guess it was just a bad weekend for my initial time. Anyone else out there?

Glad you finally made it to the Tank. Saturday was an unusual day for fishing because of the tides. The Tank had 2 high tides along with a full moon. This resulted in one high tide being 3.4' @ 4:24 AM and the other high tide being only 1.6' @4:35PM. The 1st. H tide produced plenty of water movement on the outgoing which is when the bite would have been the strongest. The 2nd H tide was almost like a slack tide with very little water movement. The optimal time to fish Saturday would have been between 5:30AM and 9:30AM. Sounds complicated but once you learn how to use the tide charts in conjunction with the moon phase you can pretty much pin point the best fishing time. That's why you'll hear that someone had a killer day while another person did zilch at the same location.

O well, enough of my babbling. Are you going to make it this coming Saturday at the Tank? Should be a good time.

Catman.
