Got my first red yesterday. Unbelievable. Once I was hooked up I got stupid. In the excitement of feeling the fish run I forgot how to fish. Locked the reel down to tight, trying to horse him in. Reeling when I should be letting him run. I was a basket case. I got to give a big thanks to a couple of members here ( NCTravis and 1badf350) for calming me down and helping me get right and land this fish. Ended up with a 42 incher. Also want to thank everyone here who has helped answer all my questions.

Yeah know the feeling. Something that big takes off on a run it's hard not to try to get control back. But you got him in ---nice fish indeed.

Fantastic! Congratulations.

I know what you mean. I've caught a few but last year lost two drum over 40" in the same night when I saw them in the wash on the slope of the beach and tried to horse them in against the outflow of a receding wave. Wished I'd had someone to yell at me!
